While theyre not the absolute cheapest in our review they still present a great value for all but the occasional hiker. They also have a slightly more advanced binding than the MSR Evo Ascent. The MSR Evo base model is similar to the Evo Ascent but without a heel lift.
It also has a two-strap binding system v. The Evo Ascents three straps. At 139 its an excellent value for winter hikers who dont spend a lot of time climbing steep hills.

Between its spectacular traction simplistic binding design and great flotation with added tails this snowshoe might be just what youve been looking for. Not durable or reliable but comfortable until the straps break. Apparently MSR are aware straps degrade and break over time and they are all right with that.
Buy a more reliable set of snowshoes. Do not waste your money on these. Its dangerous to have a strap break in the.

Ive used both shoes and both are good I just prefer the Evo Ascent. Used the tails this past weekend. The Lightning Ascent above may be MSRs top snowshoe in terms of performance but the Evo Trail is an outstanding value and remains a favorite year after year.
